Egypt court mulls revoking US citizenship of president’s children

A court in the Egyptian capital city, Cairo, is set to hear a lawsuit for the revocation of the US citizenship of two of Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi’s children.


The court hearing will start on Saturday to consider the lawsuit, that had been previously filed by Egyptian lawyer Mohammad Tariq, calling for the revocation of the US citizenship of Morsi’s two children, Osama and Shaimaa.


The lawsuit pointed to the existing critical juncture in the history of Egypt and noted that it is unacceptable for the children of the president, who runs the country under the existing circumstances, to be the citizens of any country other than Egypt.

The plaintiff argued that the US citizenship of Morsi’s children runs counter to the provisions of Egypt’s citizenship laws and called on the defendants to waive their US citizenship and officially announce it to the Egyptian people.

Two months ago, following the outbreak of the Muslim world protests against a US-made blasphemous movie that insulted Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), hundreds of Egyptian activists gave Morsi a one-week respite to revoke the US citizenship of his children.
